Full Depth Reclamation

This road reconstruction process provides road departments and engineers with a way to vastly improve the structure of their local and secondary roads. Using Full Depth Reclamation, roads that have cracked and deteriorated as a result of poor substructure are reconstructed and strengthened utilizing a flexible alternative to reconstruction or major base repair processes.

With this process, a specially-designed reclaiming machine pulverizes the existing asphalt pavement and the underlying base material to a predetermined depth. Pulverizing to this depth will help to eliminate crack patterns and will form a new homogenous and stabilized road base. This process can be utilized on "dirt" roads as well as paved roads, reusing 100% of the existing road materials.

Special additives, such as asphalt emulsion, lime, calcium chloride or Portland cement fly ash can be blended with the pulverized materials to further strengthen and stabilize the road base. The choice of what additive to utilize is based on sampling and testing of the existing materials. Consideration should also be given to traffic loading when choosing the design. This new base is ultimately graded and compacted per project specifications.

Once the Full Depth Reclamation is completed, one or more courses of new asphalt pavement can be placed to complete the process. Careful attention should also be paid to traffic volume and loading when designing the pavement cross-section.

Benefits of E. J. Breneman’s Road Reclamation process include:

Full Depth Reclamation is the perfect solution for giving new life to roads that have cracked and deteriorated as a result of poor sub-structure. Rebuild your paved or dirt roads, parking lots, airfields and any other type of asphalt pavement right; Full Depth Reclamation gives them strength from the ground up.
